James & Harriet

We've got so much love for this wedding. From the stunning turquoise and gold colour combo, the bride's vintage car to the men in U.S. Navy uniform; this wedding will take your breath away!

Tell us your story? How and where did you meet?

We met through a common friend whom we were neighbors with then. They were twins and unfortunately we lost one of them a few years back.

He would come and visit with them and our friends would be all over him and all. I was always like what is with that guy that they are always excited when he comes over.

So he started getting close to my brother and we finally moved from that apartment complex and he started coming to our home.

At first we were just friends helping each other with homework but after about a year we got very attached and decided to start dating.

What do you love the most about each other?

We really enjoy each other’s company. We are both very talkative and love life so we always take life one day at a time and have lots of love and most important respect for each other and ensure that we are both happy.

How did he propose?

Now he is the most romantic guy you will ever ask for. He told me that he was taking me out to dinner one night. We ended up in Downtown Fortworth where we rode on a horse carriage and as I was still admiring the beautiful city, he went down on one knee.

It was funny because I did not even get a hint with the carriage all decorated and looking good. I started tearing up and said YES of course, then the people in the streets downtowns started cheering.

It looked as if he had planned the whole thing with the people in town.

What songs did you and your bridal team walk down the aisle to?

My bridal team actually danced down the aisle.

James chose the song “Mwema” by Mercy Masika and they danced to it.

As for me I walked to “A thousand Years” by Christina Perri.

What was your wedding theme and what inspired your choice of colours, suppliers and style?

I like vibrant colors, so I went with turquoise and gold. I like turquoise because it brings some joy, it is a happy color and gold brings out the turquoise.

I chose gold chaviari chairs to complement the color and to avoid having the chairs wrapped up.

Give a brief recount of the wedding day, from waking up till evening and the things that were going through your mind at the time.

The moment the day started I just could not believe that it is finally happening. This was something that I had always wanted in my life “to have a wedding”.

The juice of it all was that I was getting married to my best friend, someone we have gone through ups and downs together far away from home and we are finally getting married and staying together for the rest of our lives.

Tell us your biggest cost saver and any cost saving tips you have for people planning their wedding.

Knowing people is the biggest cost saver. Always start with the people you know and the people that have done it before.

Talk to them and get tips and bargain your way out if you can.

You must have learnt quite a number of things during the wedding process. What did you learn regarding the wedding photography that you would like to other couples to know?

For Wedding photography all I can say is, if you can get a creative photographer, that will be very good especially one who works with a lot of passion.

At this point I will advocate for my photographer and would advise all brides-to-be to try him. Steve and his team (Waruisapix) are awesome and will make your day beautiful.

He is very creative and passionate about his Job

What (in your opinion), do you think is the most overrated thing in weddings?

Decorating Cars.

Any other tips/lessons you would like to share with other brides and grooms planning for their wedding?

Always start planning early because things change and sometimes finding what you want may take time.

Also pray hard because there will be lots of obstacles in your way as you plan.

Another thing is that all those vendors you appoint they will give you what you want just tell them once and they will make it happen.

That way they do not feel like you are bugging them. Please also listen to their ideas as they are experienced and that way they will make your day beautiful and just as you want it to be.
