Tell us your story? How and where did you meet?
We met at my best friends place ( my maid of honor). It was on 31st December people plan to go to church or parties but me and my friend just wanted to have a quiet dinner by ourselves.

I was to go to her place after work. She called me and told me a friend of ours asked if they could chill with us before going out to the club. I was not thrilled but had to go since I dint have plan B.  She was coming with her boyfriend and the boyfriend’s best friend who is now my husband. That’s how we met.

Margaret: What made you fall in love with Peter?
I can’t say it was love at first sight but we somehow clicked. Apart from being handsome, funny and a gentleman, he is a charmer. To me he has this smile that is hard to ignore (hahaha). He really made me laugh that first time we me. With time I came to realize he is a responsible guy; just what I love in a guy. I still cannot get enough of him.

How did he propose?
I remember it was just a normal day on Christmas Eve, we decided to go have dinner in my favorite restaurant. We had candles on the table and the place was so beautiful but nothing unusual. We ordered for drinks and after they came.

He said I have your Christmas present and that’s when he removed a small box and I immediately knew what it was by the look of it. I was shaking when I opened it and that is when I saw the Gold ring. He got on his knee and asked me to marry him.

For how long did you plan your wedding and what did you enjoy most about the planning process?
We planned our wedding for approximately 8 months, from end of March 2013. It was not easy and I did not know where to start since I had never dreamt of having a wedding, I never even thought that one day someone will ask me to marry him and in church for that matter. So I was blank. I started checking weddings on the internet abroad and in Kenya and that’s how I started having ideas of what I wanted.

The most enjoyable moment was to search for my dress. I had never seen so many nice dresses the way I did. I felt like an angel every time I tried a new one wow! they were breath taking.  I had my bridesmaids most of the time and since they are classy I got ideas and most of all I got the dress I wanted.

What challenges did you face in planning your wedding and how did you deal with those challenges?
Challenges were many since we live abroad and wanted a wedding in Kenya. The worst thing about many web pages in Kenya is they never put prices on anything. So you will end up calling them. Calling was a problem because they will end up giving you a higher price because of your phone number.
So we decided to solve the problem by getting a wedding planner which was the best idea ever. Our wedding planner was not just a smart lady but she is tough all the prices I had gotten from the vendors changed drastically (hahaha) we just love her.
How did our website – www.kenyaweddings.co.ke help you in planning your wedding?
Kenya weddings website is just the best thing since sliced bread.
We wanted a wedding from our roots and since Kenya Weddings has featured so many weddings it made it easy to see how people plan their wedding. From  the colours to the themes and most of all the vendors.

What was your wedding theme and what inspired your choice of colours, suppliers and style?
Aaah the wedding theme, let’s say I wanted something bright because am not good in mixing colours, actually I don’t know how to mix colours.  I wanted Burgundy and white plus a touch of silver. But not most of the time we got what we wished for. We ordered the bridesmaid’s dresses from the UK and when they came they were wine red and it was kinda late so we couldn’t return them.

The person who had problems was our décor person since we had already sent him a sample of our colour and had to change it so many times. But he understood said he has dealt with brides and he knows they never make up their mind. Anything can change. But I loved the colours, everything in those colours turned out well.

Bride wore- Ivory weddings dress, Gold shoes.
Groom -  Slim fit Black  Suit, white wing collar shirt, ivory waist coat, black shoes.

Suppliers I got a couple from Kenya weddings website. Like the venue, I  dint have any idea but I got it from this site. And we also got our photo shoot venue after comparing many photo sessions under the Real Weddings section on Kenya Weddings and we just loved it.

Tell us your biggest cost saver and any cost saving tips you have for people planning their wedding.
Ahh the biggest cost saver I don’t know what to say. We decided to do the whole wedding financially alone. We did not need help or let’s say we wanted to make all the decisions alone.

But my husband’s parents made the wedding invitations cards for us they said they have to do something for us. We were grateful. Tips to the people planning their weddings is make a budget  and try to stick on it it’s not that easy but at the end of the day, you will find that it is worth it.

Give a brief recount of the wedding day, from waking up till evening and the things that were going through your mind at the time.
I was so nervous thinking what if something goes wrong like it starts raining. Our make-up lady came at around 6am and started with the girls. Then lastly it was me which as we realized was late since the women outside had started singing. I came out and realized that not only my mother in-law was there but my father in-law too I felt so lucky.

We arrived at the church Holy Family Bassilica at 9.20am and the church was starting at 10am so my plan of having a time scheduled wedding was going well. Before entering the church I realized from whispers made by my bridesmaids that the PA system in church could not play our CD meaning we would walk down the aisle to the choir singing I was frustrated but it went well . They played the Piano when I came inn. We later went for the photo session at Windsor and rode in a Limo to get there; which was great! I remember the women singing as I was entering the grounds and there was such beautiful décor that I had to ask myself whether this was my wedding.  The food served at the reception was the best and there were surprises; like a band that my husband surprised me with.

What do you think is the most overrated thing in weddings?
You have to realize that after planning the wedding there is nothing you can do on the wedding day.  The best thing to do on that day is to have as much fun as you can since it comes once.

What songs were played as you and your bridal team walked down the aisle?
Hahaha just as I said earlier the PA system at the church did not work. So my bridesmaids entered with the church choir, they said it was okay. I entered with the wedding song from the piano I did not hear much of it because all the eyes on me I was so nervous. The best was to realize later that, that was the only bad and unexpected thing that happened on that day. To me that was a small thing.

Any tips/lessons you would like to share with other brides and grooms?
People should try to relax. We, ladies, tend to feel that we are doing so much more than our men.
But if you try to involve him more you will relax and you won’t feel that you did everything alone. Also remember this is a one day event before your life start so try not to put so much stress on it that will end up destroying your longtime relationship before it even started. So have as much fun as you can on this day, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.
