Read their story and have a look at the stunning photos.
Tell us your story; how and where did you meet?
Volker and I met through two friends who hooked us up. Caroll and Sally. Caroll is Volker’s friend and Sally is my buddy.
So it started online and a month later he flew down to see me and the rest grew into a beautiful marriage for which I am forever grateful to God.
Susan: How did he propose?
It was during a holiday in Bangkok December 2013. We were one week in Bangkok then moved to its coast Pattaya.
On 30th Dec he took me to a restaurant, we had a good meal and he proposed and I immediately said yes!
What inspired your choice to have a destination wedding?
The serene nature of Sawela Lodges. We wanted a place where my husband would interact with our beautiful land Kenya and a different feel for my family and friends. Sawela welcomed me in a manner I will live to tell.
I had a wonderful time with the staff and I immediately knew this is where I want to exchange my vows.
For how long did you plan your wedding and what did you enjoy most about the planning process?
The planning took 4 months. The beauty of the process was interacting with different service providers with great minds and beautiful ideas. We had such a wonderful time with them and for sure none disappointed me.
Tell us your biggest cost saver and any cost saving tips you have for people planning their wedding.
Mmhhh cost saver…guess doing the whole planning on my own so getting to pick exactly what my heart desired. So my advice would be go for what you want, not what the planner wants to make of your wedding.
What did you love most about your experience at Sawela Lodge?
Sawela Lodge has got a great team of people with kind hearts and ready to give you want you want and share on the best options. After exploring Naivasha I landed where my heart felt at home.
Give a brief recount of the wedding day, from waking up till evening and the things that were going through your mind at the time.
The whole experience was calm since I knew that everything would happen in Sawela Lodge so no hustle from one place to another.
The weather was wonderful and since we had travelled to Sawela Lodge the night before we had a hint of what was to come.
You are from different cultures, how did that play out during the wedding planning process?
Like my husband says his heart is half Kenyan so it was easy. I made sure we covered both cultures so that we could have a feel of both.
What songs were played as you and your bridal team walked down the aisle?
We played German songs which my husband and I love so much .We have favourite songs and we chose them together.
What would you say was your biggest challenge during the planning process and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge was buying online and not sure if what I ordered would come out right.
This was my bridesmaids dresses, little flower girl and my gown. My husband played a key role on this and he made sure he tracked the clothes to the last destination.
