Tell us your story; how and where did you meet?
We have known each other practically all our lives.

Our parents have been neighbours and good friends since before we were born and so we grew up together (even baby sat together).

How did he propose?

Roni, what qualities made you decide that Chris was the man for you?
Other than his ravishing looks, Chris’ clever wit had me at hello. I never get tired listening to his wisdom or his ramblings about whatever.

He makes me LAUGH!! He keeps it real. He is cool and collected but can totally let loose and get goofy. He is reliable and consistent. I could go on forever…

How about you Chris, what attracted you to Roni?
Everything about Roni is amazing. “She may not be perfect, but she is perfect for me,” was exactly how I felt. I was convinced that God had sent her here for me.

She made me feel like everything was right in the world every time she smiled. She still does :)

For how long did you plan your wedding and what did you enjoy most about the planning process?
One year.
It was enjoyable running up and down together.

We spent a lot of time together during the weekends and that helped us bond and know more about each other’s interests.

We absolutely loved your style! In particular your outfits, your bridal party’s outfit and your creative wedding invitations. Tell us what inspired the design and choices?
We wanted to have an African themed wedding but still maintain a modern touch hence the use of Kitenge and Chiffon for the bridesmaids’ dresses.

For Chris and the groomsmen, we decided to have a casual look with Kitenge half coats, chino pants and rubber sneakers. Comfort was key. Roni’s gown was custom made; a tulle ball gown with a sequined bodice and one-shoulder detail.

Chris is a designer, so no one else was going to design our invites. It was a simple square card, inserted in a shimmer envelope and the stamp was the icing on the cake.

What would you say was your biggest challenge during the planning process and how did you overcome it?
We had so many awesome ideas on how to have a wonderful wedding day…the challenge was trying to pick out the most practical and cost effective ones.

What songs were played as you and your bridal team walked down the aisle?
Groom – Superman by Robin Thicke

Bridal Party – All of Me by John Legend

Bride – You’ve Got What I Need by Joshua Radin

Give a brief recount of the wedding day, from waking up till evening and the things that were going through your mind.
The day went by pretty fast and we were high on excitement the whole day. We had planned to have as much fun as we could bear and so we held nothing back. Four years of courtship culminated in our wedding ceremony.

God had brought us to this point and we were going to celebrate and thank Him for His faithfulness. Our prayer was that the guests would be able to see the parable of Christ’s undying love for His church as we vowed to love each other as husband and wife(Eph 5:22-33).

It was a beautiful day… the weather was perfect, the guests were lively and our MC brought his A-game.  When the sun had set and all the guests were gone, we laid our heads down to rest and smiled ear to ear for everything had gone much better than we expected.

The DIY trend is growing in popularity among couples getting married. Did you have any DIYs at your wedding, what were they? And how did you pull them off?
Yes, we figured DIY décor would be cheaper and more convenient to use. We used sisal lampshades for the aisle and wine bottles wrapped in sisal as vases for centerpieces. We had paper flowers made out of serviettes. None of these would have been possible without the selfless efforts of our friends.

The Wedding planning process is a learning process for every couple. What did you learn about selecting a wedding photographer?
Befriend a good photographer way before his career takes off so that when he becomes a dynamite in photography, he will be more than willing to shoot your wedding.
Gathoni and Ben Kiruthi have been long time friends and we had a mutual desire for them to shoot our wedding. We love how they capture special moments and their personal touch.

We wanted the wedding to reflect our personalities and preferences. That it will be as unique as we are; from the lively and incessant dancing to the creative DIY. Over and above this, our prayer was that our wedding would be a reminder to our guests of Christ’s love for his bride the Church.
