Steve & Norah

With a stunning venue, Belavie House located in the serene Karen area, this wedding was off to a great start. And then you add intricate decor details and a gorgeous cake and you have the perfect wedding.

How and where did you meet?
We grew up in the same neighborhood, we were kids then , but High School marked the beginning of our journey.

Steve; what do you love the most about Norah?
Her caring nature, always a good listener and intelligent.

How about you Norah, what led you to decide that Steve is the man for you?
He loves me and accepts me just the way I am. He is my biggest cheerleader, he knows my dreams and he wants to be right beside me when I achieve them. Together, I know we will.

How did he propose?
We went to Naivasha, I thought I was getting a lovely treat for my birthday since it fell on that weekend. Was woken up early morning to watch the sun rise, I thought that was all so we had a bush breakfast overlooking Lake Naivasha and then I got my ring just before we were done. I was surprised to say the least (objective achieved) and so very happy. It was beautiful.

What songs did you and your bridal team walk down the aisle to?
Bridal Team: Angel – Natasha Bedingfield
Bride: Your home is in my heart - Boyz II Men feat Chante Moore
  Recession: Aye - Davido

What was your wedding theme and what inspired your choice of colours, suppliers and style?
It was a modern outdoor wedding. We chose the orange colour because we felt it radiates warmth and happiness.  Our suppliers were willing to take on new challenges, were flexible and had worked together previously.

Give a brief recount of the wedding day, from waking up till evening and the things that were going through your mind at the time.
Norah: I was up by 4.30a.m after having slept early enough the previous night, and the rest of my team was up by 5 a.m. We had breakfast and got ready for the day. Everyone was all dolled up by 9.00am by which time the bridal cars had arrived. We got to the venue in good time and I was quite impressed with how the décor had turned out. It was simply beautiful. The ceremony was lovely. It was a big relief that everything went according to plan, our guests had a good time and all our providers delivered as agreed. We would not have done it any other way.

Steve:  I woke up at 6 am, made our way to the venue where we prepared and waited for the bride. Once she arrived everything else moved pretty fast, the wedding officiant was hilarious, it was filled with laughter and love. It was lovely to see all those who were in attendance to share in the day with us. It had been a day we had looked forward to for quite some time.

What was your biggest cost saver and are there any cost saving tips you have for people planning their wedding?
Our friends offered their cars for the occasion plus Belavie House was a “one-stop source” for the church service, reception and an evening thereafter thus we did not have to move around, saving on fuel costs and time. Our wedding programs were created on two large boards thus we didn’t incur costs in printing hundreds of programs

You must have learnt quite a number of things during the wedding process. What did you learn regarding selecting wedding venues that you would like other couples to know?
Most wedding venues are booked way in advance by other people, it is important to secure a venue early lest you settle for what you had planned for.  ust like Belavie House, our ideal venue was somewhere where we could hold the church service and reception, furthermore it had basic amenities, ample parking and was secure.

Any other tips/lessons you would like to share with other brides and grooms planning for their wedding?
7 months prior to the wedding was preoccupied with preparations for the event, visits at home to both families and premarital counseling. The latter was quite helpful as we had moments where we could forget about the wedding day and focus on marriage, it was relaxing.

We settled for suppliers who had worked together and this made coordination easy, our families and friends were very helpful spiritually, emotionally and economically, with a wealth of knowledge; we are forever grateful.
