Tell us your story? How and where did you meet?
We met back in primary school, which was back in the early 90s, we lived in the same village. We would go looking after our cows together, fetching water and firewood. Back then it was love through notes and reading the love letters would melt my heart. We later joined the same high school and the love notes continued.
After high school we went to separate colleges but within Nairobi.  He later travelled abroad and after a year of saving up he sponsored me to join him, helped me secure a job and a resident visa and here we are today.
What do you love the most about each other?
The fact that we have been best of friends for about 15 years now is the best part, calling my high school sweetheart my husband, my best friend, is the best part of our lives at the moment.
How did he propose?
It was on 17th of April 2014, I came from work in the afternoon and being a flight attendant this kind of timing is never the best. I was extremely exhausted. He picked me up from the airport and mentioned that we needed to go to the beach in the evening which was about three hours from the time he picked me up. I love going to the beach but the idea didn't strike me as fun on this particular day because I was extremely exhausted. Anyway, around 4pm we drove to the beach. The sun was setting down, the view was amazing.
He took me to my favourite spot, which was on top of the rocks, away from the crowd.  I loved this place because the only view from this point was the sunset and a huge mass of water...he started reminding me of all the things we had been through the years since our childhood. It always a funny topic. I got so caught up in the conversation that I didn't even realize that he went down on his knee,
And asked me to marry him.  It was the last thing I thought he would do. I thanked God I didn't refuse to come with him to the beach earlier.  And yeah I said yes!!
What songs did you and your bridal team walk down the aisle to?
Bride: Canon in D pachelbel instrumentals.
Bridal party: Nthihamba nawe mafikizolo
Being the United States must have made it a challenge in planning your wedding from abroad. Did you make use of a wedding planner and what was your experience?
Yeah it is a big challenge, I tried to throw in ninja moves the first month but it didn't work. So I ended up using a wedding planner (Ruth Alexander of Special and Exquisite Occasions). Many of my friends who have done weddings talk of the planning as a very hectic process. I on the other hand, think of the process as easy and fun.

It was a journey I enjoyed.  I didn't stress at all, thanks to Mrs. Ruth Alexander.  I still call her my magic charm to date. Ruth was very organised and I gathered that from our first meeting. Her attention to detail, communication and time management are her strongest suits. I can go on and on about this company, all am saying is to avoid becoming a bridezilla. Bank on the best wedding planner in town, someone you can trust with your big day.
Why would you advice other couples to use a wedding planner?
Because wedding planning is time consuming and time sensitive work and you can never completely rely on family and friends to devote their time and energy to your wedding, someone needs to be in charge of overseeing and answering questions from your army of vendors and that’s where planners come in. Bearing in mind the fact that you and your fiancé might be working full time, a professional wedding planner will take a large chunk of planning time off your plate.

What was your wedding theme and what inspired your choice of colours, suppliers and style?
Our wedding theme was white and sky blue, my fiancé loves blue and I love white because it represents peace, I wanted a very simple theme. I wanted the wedding to be simple but elegant, this played a role in our choice of theme colours.
Give a brief recount of the wedding day, from waking up till evening and the things that were going through your mind at the time.
I have to start with the fact that it was a beautiful day. We could never have asked for more. I found it hard to sleep, the butterflies in my stomach were nervous too.
Got up early in the morning and the beautiful part is my wedding planner showed up at my house so early in the morning just to reassure me that everything was in order before she proceeded to the venue. Everyone dressed up and we left the house around tenish.
The guys were already there waiting for us. Vows were exchanged, emotional but beautiful.  Photo session was next big up to shutter speed. The reception was amazing, the setup, the beautiful tents were just screaming elegance. Special and Exquisite occasions being lady Ruth Alexander did a great job.  Food was in surplus thanks to Windsor hotel. The waiters were beautifully dressed. Then the dancing started, I had no idea some people had such great moves. It was really fun. After this everyone retired, to go freshen up for evening party later in Windsor.
Tell us your biggest cost saver and any cost saving tips you have for people planning their wedding.
Having the wedding, reception and evening party at the same place, saved a lot on transport expenses. Managing the guest list also helped us save a lot.
You must have learnt quite a number of things during the wedding process. What did you learn regarding the wedding photography that you would like to other couples to know?
We will probably only walk down the aisle once, and it’s a memory everyone wants to relieve for the rest of their lives,  what’s more beautiful than showing your children beautiful shots of yourselves on your wedding day a couple of years down the line? I believe a good wedding photographer is the best investment in a wedding.

Any other tips/lessons you would like to share with other brides and grooms planning for their wedding?
We would urge them to remember that it is their wedding and it is a once in a lifetime thing, so don’t worry so much about what your friends and family want (please consider opinions) just make yourself happy. It is your day, just do what you can, with what you have and where you are.
Second lesson remember there is life after the wedding, so mind about your finances, incorporate what you can afford only.
At Kenya Weddings we are always looking for something different unique and creative that a couple incorporates in their wedding. Please let us know what your something different was, what inspired you and how you got it done.
Ooh, this is a tricky question, we wanted a really simple and elegant wedding.  That was different, the reception setup was different.
We didn't use a high table, we had the same cocktail table as everyone else and the only thing that was different was the setup and the centre piece. The rest of the tables were around us which gave us easy access to them and vice versa. Young children ages 5 to 10 distributed the wedding programmes at the entrance of the venue.
