Tell us your story? How and where did you meet?

We meet at a Bible study (Cell Group) where we used to meet every Thursday. I was a new convert and very timid. I didn’t have much to share and when my husband would be sharing, I used to think; this guy, going for a date with him you have to be an angel and be able to quote the whole Bible. LOL.

It happened that one day in church my car could not start and the first person I saw was him. I asked for his help and he came and fixed my car. We ended up spending 3 hours just talking about ourselves.

That is when I got to know how real he is. And somewhere deep down in my heart, I prayed to God that this a man would be my husband.( God was listening).

What do you love the most about each other?
Rita: I love his personality; he is kind, generous, loving, understanding and my family adores him.

Sam: She is an amazing cook, patient, focused, accommodating and most of all she is always smiling.

How did he propose?

It was 1st June. He told me we are going for a picnic. He picked me up at 11. I had told him earlier how I have never been to Arboretum and I would love to go there. And that’s where he took me. He had prepared brunch.

We got a spot where he set up and we had our brunch. And then he told me there is a river somewhere in the woods he would like to show me. We walked for a while and we couldn’t find the river. We came across a log and I told him I was getting tired (he couldn’t remember where the river was) LOL.

He told me to sit  as he thought which side the river was, he held my hand as I was sitting down and then he got down on his knee and he proposed… I didn’t see it coming; as in two occasions I had imagined he would propose on Valentine’s day and on a previous month he had taken me horse riding. He later told me he had planned to propose on Valentine’s day but he forgot the ring. He he he.

What songs did you and your bridal team walk down the aisle to?
Bride: When I found you by Babe Winans, and for Bridesmaids –Tam Tam – Willy Paul featuring Size 8

What was your wedding theme and what inspired your choice of colors, suppliers and style?

Our colors were baby pink, silver and white. For me, I picked baby pink because ever since I was a child I had always imagined my wedding to be full of pink flowers and the color gives me Goosebumps. My husband did not oppose to my baby pink though he wanted hot pink.

Give a brief recount of the wedding day, from waking up till evening and the things that were going through your mind at the time.

The first thing I did when I woke up was to shout, ‘Today is my wedding day’, then I prayed for the day to go well. I started getting ready and after 30 minutes my husband called me and we had our last talk as single people.

We prayed together for the day as well. We had the best team from our church who were of great help in organizing the whole wedding. Our suppliers delivered above our expectation. I wouldn’t want to change a thing about my wedding. We had our dream wedding..

Tell us your biggest cost saver and any cost saving tips you have for people planning their wedding.

One of our cost savers was our wedding cake, we had budgeted Ksh. 65,000 for it but we won our cake in a competition on Kenya Weddings Facebook page.

The cake was from Sweet Inspirations. We encourage couples to look out for offers and competitions on Kenya Weddings. Another thing cost saver was transport; all our cars came from friends. Our total car transport was to cost Ksh.150,000 but we ended up not hiring any car.

What (in your opinion), do you think is the most overrated thing in weddings?

Food, all the people we approached they charged us per person. And for the menu we wanted, the cheapest was 800 per person. Instead, we went for someone who gave us a total cost of the ingredients and he added his service cost which was way cheaper.

Any other tips/lessons you would like to share with other brides and grooms planning for their wedding?

I think one of the most important tips to all brides and grooms is that, let that day be about God; He will make things beautiful above your expectation. Before you start the whole process of planning, PRAY.

My wedding was way above my expectation and it was all because of God. We got amazing discounts, our honeymoon was at 50% off, we won the cake, food was at half price, cars were free, friends and family came through for us and I won a fully paid trip to South Africa courtesy of Kenya Weddings and South African Tourism.

It was a beautiful sunny day it was during the rainy reason. God made it possible for us. Glory to God.

Another thing is select people who can help you wisely. Some of my friends I thought would help never even showed up for my wedding.

Do not be afraid to ask for help, you will be surprised how people are willing to assist where they can.

Research on your suppliers if possible, attend some of their events.

And most importantly, on the wedding day, focus on the main reason why you are there.  It’s not about the food or the decor it’s about committing your union to God. Have fun. Don’t sweat the little things.

You were one of the winners of the Safiri SA competition sponsored by South Africa Tourism. Tell us more about your experience in South Africa, what was the highlight of the trip for you?

Wow! What can I really say……. I had one of the amazing time in South Africa. A big thanks to South African Tourism and Kenya Weddings.

The treat we got there was more than I could ask for. Some of my highlight from the trip was visiting the spectacular Table Mountain via cable car,  the seals island, the exquisite dinners, the spa experience, SHOPPING and of course the wedding Expo in Cape Town.

I can’t really pick one as the highlight because to me everything was a different experience that was as amazing as any activity I did in South Africa. One word for the TRIP… EXTRODINARY!!

Are there any interesting wedding ideas you picked from the Bridal Fair in Cape Town.
Oh yes! Some I implemented were how to carry the bridal bouquet. I didn’t know how I was supposed to handle it but apparently they are supposed to be carried in style.

Another thing is that my bouquet is a complimentary of my dress and not my decor, hence I can pick any color. The bouquet doesn’t have to match my decor, he he he. Also I got a makeup idea. I had one makeup trial which gave me an idea of what make up I would do.

Also my hairstyle, I actually won my hair extensions at the wedding fair which I wore on my wedding day! He he he.

You were also the winner of our cake giveaway competition courtesy of Sweet Inspirations. Tell us what cake flavor you chose and why?

First and for most let me say thanks to Sweet Inspirations and Kenya Weddings; Sweet Inspirations really delivered.

I had gone there with what I would want for my wedding; thinking it was the best only to find an even better design advised by Sweet Inspirations; the cake was amazing! We picked lemon cake and fruit cake, the one we gave to our parents was fruit cake and the rest was lemon cake.

The lemon flavor was really awesome and also my husband got to pick his favorite flavor; lemon cake.

At Kenya Weddings we are always looking for something different unique and creative that a couple incorporates in their wedding. Please let us know what your something different was, what inspired you and how you got it done.

Our something unique we picked was our photo session as a couple, we decided we wanted to be different than all the couple pictures you get. Hence we hired a camel to ride on and also we took a boat ride… I was against it but at the end my husband won and I ended up having a cool time.
